The 1+2 Languages Award (primary and secondary cluster working)

Thank you for your interest in the 1+2 languages category of the Scottish Education Awards. This award recognises early learning and childcare settings and schools that have developed a vibrant and progressive culture and climate of continuous innovation in relation to Language Learning in Scotland: A 1+2 approach.

The culture and ethos of establishments nominated for this award category should promote respect, ambition and achievement in languages while improving outcomes for all learners in ways which eliminate inequity.

We hope you will be encouraged to submit a nomination so we can celebrate successes and achievements within Scottish education.

It is important that you provide as much detail as you can to give a good account of the practical activities and programmes you are supporting in relation to this award category. 1. Please provide detail about all the activities, programmes and creative approaches you are taking forward in your setting in relation to this award category. How are these being embedded across the four contexts for learning? (Max 600 words)

For the 1+2 Languages Award (cluster working) you may wish to include additional details about the following:

  • How are you providing motivational, creative and experiential learning and teaching in language learning across the cluster?
  • How are you ensuring that there is robust continuity between primary and secondary language learning experiences to ensure a coherent and progressive approach?
  • How are you using languages to engage learners and raise ambitions, attainment and achievement?
  • How are you linking language learning skills to the world of work?

2. How are you promoting equity, equality, diversity and inclusion in relation to this award category? (Max 300 words)

For the 1+2 Languages Award (cluster working) you may wish to include additional details about the following:

  • How are you promoting gender equality in language learning?
  • In what ways are you helping young people with disabilities, those from different ethnic backgrounds, those from our most deprived communities and those who have experienced care to access language learning pathways and careers?

3. What impact are your approaches having on learners, staff, their families, partner organisations, other educational establishments and the wider community? What evidence do you have to support this? (Max 300 words)

  • How are you engaging families to promote positive perceptions of languages and language learning?
  • How are you building capacity across the cluster?
  • To what extent are you working in partnership with employers and other partners to enhance and promote language learning?
  • In what ways are you working with other languages colleagues across your learning community to ensure a coherent and progressive approach to language learning? What impact is this having on learners, their attainment and achievement?
